Weeknight leagues are the cornerstone of our Chapter. We offer nine-hole league play at courses throughout the tri-state area every night of the week, so you're bound to find at least one that's convenient for you.
Our leagues get underway as soon as weather permits in the spring, and run for run 12 to 16 weeks. Tee times begin between 5 and 6:30 p.m.
League membership requires advance registration and payment. Registration opens at the time of our 2009 Kickoff Brunch.
Each league is coordinated by a volunteer captain, who keeps members informed and serves as a liaison with the course. League captains also maintain a list of subs for their league.
League subs. If your schedule makes it difficult to join a league, but you'd like to play from time to time, sign up as a sub for as many leagues as you want. League members or captains will email you when a sub is needed and you'll pay the league sub fee each time you play.
Our weekend league play is a bit more informal than our weeknight leagues. Our travel league captain reserves 3-4 tee times at various courses on Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout the golf season.
To participate all you have to do is sign up to be on the travel league email list.
Everyone on the list receives an email early in the week with details of when and where the group will play on the weekend. Respond to email by the deadline to “reserve” a spot in the field. Weekend league spots fill up fast, so registration is on a first-come-first served basis.
You'll pay the greens fee at the pro shop when you sign in to play.
All members are also encouraged to participate in special golf events and competitions, held throughout the golf season.
These may be just-for-fun outings, fundraisers or tournaments, but each is an important opportunity for all of us to get to know each other and play together outside of our weekly league or lesson groups.
The schedule changes from year to year and new events are added, but members have come to count on the following favorites:
Spring Outing (Apr 17). Our season golf opener, presented by Golf Chic Boutique, is an 18-hole, two-gal scramble at Deer Run GC; 1 p.m. shotgun start, including post-round dinner and prizes. This year’s event was also our inaugural benefit for Cincinnati Dress for Success…and it was a great success! EWGA members donated more than $1,000 and a huge selection of suits and other needed apparel and accessories, which was presented to Dress for Success on April 22.
EWGA Championship Series. Members with a USGA Handicap Index® can take part in the largest amateur women's golf tournament of its kind. Chapter Championships are the first round of the flighted-competition. Winners in each flight advance to the semi-final round, and winners there compete in the EWGA national finals. Here are our 2010 dates and locations:
Cincinnati Chapter Championship: June 19, Weatherwax GC, Middletown, OH
To be eligible you must have a current HI and have played and posted scores for two 18-hole or four 9-hole rounds during the current 2010 season. Qualifying rounds must be posted by May 31 (to be effective for the June 1 revision). Please download the General Information Flyer below for more detailed instructions on how to register. Clinics and seminars
Golf education and player development is at the heart of the EWGA mission. Since the Association's inception, thousands of women have learned the game and improved their skills in EWGA programs designed for golfers of all skill levels and delivered by golf teaching professionals who work closely with the organization.
Here's a quick look at our 2010 lineup. Click here for a flyer. Click on underlined events to register.
Plus! In conjunction with The Golf Courses of Kenton County, we're offering a First Day of Spring Clinic, free to both members and those interested in joining EWGA. Sat, Mar 20, 10-11:30.
Mentoring
If you're new to golf, you may wish to sign up for EWGA's mentoring program called Fairway Friends. Your mentor won't be teaching you golf skills, but she will be a member with playing experience who can help make you comfortable out on the course by offering tips on etiquette, pace of play and other nuances of the game. Open the Mentee Guide to learn more.
If you're a more experienced player, Fairway Friends, is your opportunity to support the mission of EWGA by helping a member new to the game make the transition from instruction to on-course play. Think back to those first few times you ventured out onto the course and please consider how much your guidance and friendship will mean to someone in that same position now. Open the Mentor Guide to learn more.
Q&A with golf experts
Throughout the year, Association headquarters hosts a series of live online presentations by golf industry experts who also field member questions. Topics have included golf fitness, tournament preparation, the “mental” game, etc. Members will receive email invitations as these presentations are scheduled and you can only register for these presentations on the Association headquarters Web site.
Like golf events and competitions, the schedule for our social and networking events changes from year to year. Although new events will be offered each year, our two “bookend” events are member favorites.
Tee Off Brunch. This gathering for returning members and women who may be interested in membership previews what's in store for a new EWGA season and offers prospects a chance to get acquainted with us. View the Prospect Orientation presentation.
Happy Hours Beginning January 2010, we’ve scheduled informal, no host Happy Hour get-togethers the first Tuesday and third Thursday of the month during the off-season. There’s no sign up or registration, just pop in whenever you can make it…and bring along a friend! Check the Calendar section for dates and locations
Holiday Party. We're in full holiday swing for this celebration of a great year of golf and a chance to recognize and thank the volunteers who made it all so much fun.
